The Starlink Mini runs on 12–48V DC, so on paper you can plug it straight into a 12V battery. In practice, many people running it off 12V find it drops out or reboots, usually at the worst time. A 12V to 30V booster fixes that.
12V sits right at the bottom of the Mini's input range, with very little room to spare. Three things eat into that margin:
Add those together and the voltage at the dish can fall below what it needs. The result is a dropout or a restart.
A step-up booster takes your 12V supply and turns it into a steady, regulated 30V, even when the battery sags. At 30V the Mini draws less than half the current it would at 12V for the same power, so there is far less voltage lost in the cable. The result is a stable connection that stays up.
All of our boosters are made for the Starlink Mini. The right one depends on how you connect to your 12V system.
| Your setup | Booster | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Battery box, DC-DC system or Anderson outlet | 12V to 30V Booster, Anderson Plug | Anderson input with inline fuse, IP67 sealed, 1m output lead |
| Cigarette or accessory socket in a car, ute or caravan | 12V to 30V Booster, Cigarette Plug | Plug in and go, no wiring. 10A fused plug, 90W output |
| Our lockable or aluminium roof rack mount | 12V to 30V Booster for Roof Rack Mounts | Short 30cm leads so it sits inside the lockable mount or aluminium bracket |
| A built-in outlet in a caravan, motorhome or canopy | Waterproof Boosted Power Outlet | Booster built into a panel socket. 12V or 24V in, 30V out, IP67 with the cap on |
Our plug-in boosters take a 12V input (9–15V), so do not plug them into a 24V system. A 24V truck or bus already sits comfortably in the Mini's range, so you can usually run it directly with a 12/24V cigarette lead. For a fixed outlet, the Boosted Power Outlet takes 12V or 24V.
Run the Mini from the 18V tool batteries you already own with our Milwaukee, Makita, DeWalt or Ryobi battery adaptors. Or use a 100W USB-C PD source such as our 130W USB-C car charger with a USB-C to DC cable made for the Mini.
The Anderson and cigarette boosters have an output socket that takes the Mini's DC cable. Use the factory 15m cable, or swap to a 3m, 5m or 10m cable for a neater install. Our Travel Bundle and Touring Bundle include a booster and 5m cable together.
If you run your Mini off 12V, fit a booster. For most caravans and 4WDs with a battery box, the Anderson booster is the one to get. If you only have a cigarette socket, go the cigarette plug booster. Mounting on the roof rack? The roof rack booster is made to fit inside our mounts.
