5A plug & play charger

Tried in our own truck How it works

Charge the battery fully at home before you leave. On the road, the 5A plug & play charger plugs into a 12V power point in the centre console or cargo area and tops the battery up while you drive. Turn the car off and the fridge keeps running off the battery.

We run this exact setup in our own truck. The myCOOLMAN 20 uses just 0.8Ah an hour, so with a full battery and long days of driving it runs the fridge for 2 to 3 days. At camp, add a portable solar panel to charge the battery back up while the car is off.

A 20A or 40A DC to DC charger needs heavy 8 B&S cable run from the start battery. This kit doesn’t: the charger is designed to stay within what a factory 12V socket and its wiring can safely carry, so there’s no risk of popping fuses. Read more about plug and play charging.

Simple setup

Plug and play

No tools, no cable runs and nothing under the bonnet.

1Charge at home

Fill the battery on a mains lithium charger before the trip.

2Plug in the charger

Charger into the car’s 12V socket, Anderson plug into the battery.

3Plug in the fridge

Run the fridge from the battery’s 12V socket and drive.

4Park and relax

Car off, fridge stays cold. Add solar at camp if you’re staying put.

Unplug when you park, if your socket stays live

Some vehicles keep the 12V socket powered with the engine off. Unplug the charger when you stop so it doesn’t draw on your starter battery. Keep the battery in the cabin, out of direct sun and strapped down.
