Overview

Rooftop-size solar for your BLUETTI system

The SolarX 4K is a wall-mounted MPPT solar charge controller. It takes a high-voltage solar array (150-500V) and steps it down to a safe 35-58V to charge a BLUETTI system at up to 4,000W. That suits a rooftop or ground-mount array at an off-grid cabin, a shed or a home backup setup.

Connected through the battery port with the P090D cable, it leaves the power station’s own solar inputs free for more panels. With an Apex 300 and B300K, BLUETTI quotes up to 6,400W of combined solar: 4,000W through the SolarX 4K plus 2,400W into the Apex 300. You can run up to three SolarX 4K units in larger systems, and monitor everything in the BLUETTI app.

Works with: BLUETTI lists the Apex 300, AC300 and AC500 (with an expansion battery), and the B300K, B300, B300S, B4810, B1210 and B1232 battery packs. It does not support other brands or lead-acid batteries.

From 4kW to 12kW of solar

Start with one SolarX 4K on an Apex 300 and B300K. For bigger loads, BLUETTI shows two Apex 300s with two SolarX 4Ks, and three of each for a 12kW system.

BLUETTI rates the charge to full at about 1.9 hours with 4,000W of solar (BLUETTI lab figure; real-world times vary).

Before you install

Plan the array and the wiring

✓Total array open-circuit voltage must stay at or below 500V. Charging starts at 150V
✓One MPPT input: don’t mix different panel types
✓Fit a DC PV isolator rated at least 600V and 20A, with 4-5 mm² MC4 leads
✓Grounding is required (three earth terminals)
✓Wear insulated gloves. If you’re not confident with electrical work, use a licensed electrician

Which BLUETTI models does the SolarX 4K work with?

BLUETTI lists the Apex 300 and the AC300 and AC500 (with an expansion battery), plus the B300K, B300, B300S, B4810, B1210 and B1232 battery packs. Other brands and lead-acid batteries are not supported.

What solar array do I need?

A string between 150V (start-up) and 500V open circuit. The MPPT range is 120-450V, rated input current is 13A (17A max) and max input power is 4,200W. Don’t mix panel types, because there is only one MPPT input.

How much charging power does it give an Apex 300?

Up to 4,000W with the short CA90 cable, or about 3,000-3,500W with the long P090D/P090A cable. Panels on the Apex 300’s own DC input can add another 2,400W, for about 6,400W combined.

Can I install it myself?

BLUETTI says you can if you have basic electrical knowledge, but it must be grounded and needs a PV isolator. If you’re unsure, have a professional install it.

What happens when the battery is full?

The BLUETTI unit asks the SolarX 4K for 0A, so charging stops by itself.

Can it go outside?

It’s rated IP21, so mount it indoors or somewhere sheltered, like a garage or shed wall.
